Track Master

Track Master is a 4-5 player car-racing board game lasting about 30 minutes. Players control unique race cars, facing items from opponents and encountering sudden events. Play casually or strategically accumulate energy points for detailed plans. It's a fun, exciting, and inclusive party game for everyone to enjoy.

Inspiration

It is quite common for teenage boys, including myself, to be drawn to race cars – one of the most thrilling sports. With this in mind, I opted to blend racing elements from "Mario Kart" and "Heat" to craft an enjoyable car-racing game. The game features straightforward rules, allowing me to engage with my classmates after school.

Mario Kart: skilled vehicles & functional items

Heat(Board game): car racing simulator

Brainstorm

Firstly, I began contemplating the components of a tabletop racing game: vehicles, tracks, power-ups, and special events, among others. While conceptualizing vehicle attributes and functionalities, I also deduced matters like movement mechanics, power-up usage, and victory conditions upon crossing the finish line. I proceeded to draft the fundamental rules of the game concurrently.

Structuring the Game

The preliminary rules of the game include individual active and passive skills for each vehicle, which require expending Energy points to unleash. During their turn, players simultaneously roll an Energy Dice (for energy accumulation) and a Moving Dice (for progression). There are four types of squares: Rest Area, Event Square, Power-Up Square, and Normal Square. The first player to cross the finish line emerges as the victor.

I transformed the design document into a paper prototype for the iterative testing of the game.
